The Advice Dorset Partnership is a network of organisations providing advice and support to residents of Dorset and Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole.
It was set up in 2016 to support information and advice providers to share expertise, improve joint working and service delivery, and provide a voice for the advice sector to influence decision-making.
The Advice Dorset Partnership is managed by Citizens Advice and is open to any organisation which provides information, advice and support/guidance to local residents.
The main objectives of the Partnership have recently been reviewed via a survey (June 2023), and the consensus was they are still relevant and appropriate, aiming to:
- Support a joined up advice sector with all partners maximising their ability to participate, collaborate and contribute.
- Develop the skills and knowledge of front line teams.
- Provide accurate and relevant information to all front line teams in a timely and concise manner
- Encourage the development of sustainable and transparent funding processes, embedding accountability and value for money.
If we can do this then then the outcomes for those needing our services will be:
- More people will get the right advice when they need it.
- People will benefit from a ‘no wrong door’ culture with improved inter-agency signposting and referral.
- Fewer people will get to a crisis point and require more costly interventions by statutory services.
The deliverables of the Partnership are information sharing (including the fortnightly E News), putting on training and briefings, and using our collective evidence to make the case for need and/or change, where appropriate. Again the recent survey confirmed these are still seen as valid, supporting and adding value to the work local organisations do themselves.

Upcoming Events
We will be organising two events in the Autumn: one will focus on advice issues, in particular the continuing Cost of Living crisis and advice needs as winter approaches. The other will have a strategic focus, to identify how we can work together more effectively, what our priorities should be over next 12 months, and how we can turn these into deliverable actions.
Advice Dorset Partnership Forum
Tuesday 28 November 2023 2-4pm, via Zoom
Aimed at frontline workers, this virtual event will focus on cost of living support and other useful updates, with presentations from the DWP, Local Authority, Citizens Advice – including the Dorset Energy Unit, Ridgewater Energy, Age UK NSWD and others…..no need to book, the Zoom link and agenda will be published in E-news No 15 on 16 November.
